Canterbury is most famous for its Cathedral, in which Thomas Becket was murdered and to which Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales characters made their pilgrimage.
Other historical structures include the Roman wall and the ruins of Canterbury Castle and St Augustine’s Abbey.
Canterbury is provides wonderful shopping opportunities, and has two theatres – the larger Marlowe Theatre and the smaller Gulbenkian Theatre. The latter is situated at one of the two universities in Canterbury, The University of Kent. The other is the slightly smaller Canterbury Christchurch University.
Canterbury has a large cricket grounds and two railway stations.
