Badminton
Medway Badminton Centre is a purpose-built, four-court specialist badminton venue with a semi-sprung specialist floor. The background colour, lights and height meet Sport England criteria. The venue is affiliated to Badminton England, and has established itself as a performance and development centre for badminton.
The Centre has experience of staging tournaments, from community events to junior, senior and veteran tournaments, county competitions and inter-school tournaments. We are home to Medway Badminton and Medway Junior Badminton, which have developed relationships with clubs and schools across the United Kingdom. Junior, senior and veteran county teams train at the Centre, alongside a number of other top junior and senior players who represent the county and region.
Medway Badminton Centre has its own full-time manager, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the centre.
The facility has modern changing rooms and showers on site as well as a fully-fitted kitchen, with café area, a bar with lounge and viewing gallery, public address system and additional store and meeting rooms. Car parking is also available.
Medway Badminton Centre is 2.6km from Medway Park, the physical conditioning, sports science and sports therapy base for visiting athletes.
Teams training at the centre will be accommodated at the Universities at Medway campus, 2.6km from the centre, which offers individual en suite rooms for up to 350 athletes and officials. The universities also have a wide range of meeting and seminar rooms with integrated information, communications, video and audio technology. There is also a fully equipped restaurant plus additional catering facilities in the accommodation.
Hosting experience
Medway Badminton centre is a purpose-built facility for clubs and leagues, which is also used extensively as a training venue and has a large junior base. The Centre is used for county fixtures and hosts annual county tournaments, as well as inter-schools regional finals.
Olympic silver medallists Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson have held master classes at the centre and former national champions have trained here.
