Sevenoaks School is one of the United Kingdom’s top independent schools, educating at any one time up to 1000 pupils, aged between 11 and 18. Of these, some 300 are boarders who live and sleep at the school during term time. The school already has an international reputation: for over 30 years it has taught the International Baccalaureate and welcomed pupils and teachers from all around the world. The London 2012 Games provide a wonderful opportunity to foster and nurture that spirit of international cooperation which is at the heart of both the school’s core values, those of the International Baccalaureate and the Olympic movement itself.
Located in Kent, 30 minutes by train from central London (Charing Cross, Waterloo East or London Bridge), Sevenoaks School is conveniently located for London Airports Gatwick (40km) and Heathrow (80km), and close to International Rail Links and the M25 orbital motorway. Just five minutes walk from Sevenoaks town centre, the school is situated on the edge of this historic market town, which has many shops and restaurants, and is adjacent to Knole Park, a beautiful 400 hectare deer park, which was once associated with King Henry VIII.
The school’s site is attractive, modern and well-maintained. Buildings range from the traditional and historic to the modern and purpose-built. Meals will be served centrally in the school dining hall, which is well used to catering for large numbers.
Sports facilities are outstanding and almost all are designed and suitable for adult use, as well as for teenagers; indeed, the facilities are regularly used by adult groups. They include a 25m UV-filtered swimming pool, a gym with machine weights and treadmills, a large indoor sports hall (eight badminton courts), squash and indoor tennis facilities, a 400m all-weather athletics track, two astroturf pitches and a wealth of grass pitches and other areas. Classrooms and lecture halls can also be made available.
Sevenoaks School has one vehicle that is suitable for wheelchair use. The vehicle has seating for 15 passengers, of which six can be wheelchair users.
Hosting experience
The School hosts two annual cross country events, Junior Knole Run with an average of 70 teams and over 400 competitors and The Knole Run, a senior event averaging 85 teams and over 600 competitors, now in its 35th year.
The Kent Youth Disability Games were held at the School last year. Over 400 young people from 21 special schools competed in seven sports, including Athletics and Fencing.
The School has hosted numerous basketball tournaments including the London Independent Schools Tournament, Kent County and Three Counties Tournaments. The Luol Deng Basketball Camp was held at the School and Sevenoaks is one of the venues for the Central League for Womens' Basketball.
For the last five years, Manchester United Soccer School has held a two-day roadshow at the School.
Sevenoaks School is well used to hosting major events of all descriptions and the above is just a small example of some of the events that take place on a regular basis.
