With easy access from the M2 we are an ideal training venue. The sports hall has two training basketball courts and one full-size court. The athletics track consists of a 400m six-lane track with an eight-lane home sprint section. It also has four long/triple jump pits, a high jump bed, pole vault bed, hammer and discus cage and a separate shot putt area. The beach volleyball courts are currently in the planning stage. The sports bar/cafe is an ideal place to come and relax after training and the staff can provide freshly prepared healthy food. We also have on site a 60-station gymnasium with a large free weights area and a sauna and steam room.
The sports hall is large enough to provide two five- and seven-a-side football courts, two sitting volleyball courts and can be adapted for Boccia and Wheelchair Fencing.
Outside we have two full-size grass football pitches that can be adapted for Five and Seven-a-side Football. We can also provide a multi-use games area which can be used for Football and Tennis and two further tennis courts. We also have an on-site tennis centre which boasts two indoor and one outdoor court.
For those who want to view their technique in front of large mirrors, we have an air-conditioned aerobics studio that is accessible via a lift. For those who wish to improve their strength there is a large gymnasium that has free-weights area suitable for wheelchair athletes.
After your training session, our sports bar/cafe offers a healthy menu and TV for relaxation.
All the facilities are easily accessible for people with disabilities; with the exception of the aerobics studio and the gymnasium all the facilities are on the ground floor.
Hosting experience
In 2007 Canterbury High School was the press centre for the end of the London-Canterbury section of the Tour De France. Some of our staff have worked together at other venues that have held international athletic events and disability road shows. As such, we work well as a team to ensure the smooth running of any event whether large or small.
At present we are home to Invicta East Kent Athletic Club which hosts athletic meetings throughout the season; our staff are heavily involved in setting up equipment and ensuring that they run on time.
